Police in Chikuzen, Fukuoka Prefecture, have arrested a 27-year-old unemployed woman on suspicion of killing her mother at their home early Tuesday.
According to police, a man called 110 at around 2 a.m. and said “My wife was stabbed by my daughter with a kitchen knife,” Kyodo News reported. When police and an ambulance arrived at the scene, they found a woman in her 50s collapsed and bleeding from knife wounds to her chest and neck. She was taken to hospital where she was pronounced dead about an hour later.
Police said the woman’s daughter, Yukino Masunaga, was arrested on the spot but added she has not responded to any questions.
Masunaga’s brother, who was in his bedroom on the second floor, said, “I heard my mother scream from the first floor, and when I went down, I found her collapsed on the floor and my sister holding a knife.”
