9 individuals fall ill due to fume exposure caused by drug mix-up at Hiroshima clinic

Nine people fell ill at a clinic in Hiroshima on Monday morning due to ⁢exposure to fumes resulting from the accidental mixing of two⁤ chemicals, local authorities have confirmed. ​The ⁢affected individuals were promptly transferred to a nearby hospital, ⁣where it was ‍determined‍ that​ their ⁣conditions were not life-threatening. The incident occurred ‌when an employee at the clinic ​made an emergency call around 9:30 a.m., expressing concerns‌ that staff members had ‌been exposed to chlorine gas. Subsequently, the clinic reported to the local public health center that the fumes ​emerged as a result of combining acetic acid ⁤and sodium hypochlorite during preparations for dialysis treatments. ‌Several staff ⁢members experienced eye pain ‌and‌ coughing as ⁢a result of this‍ incident.
