Ongoing Search for Missing in Japan’s Noto Region Following Record-Breaking Rains; 10 Dead, Thousands Displaced

One week has passed since heavy rains‍ caused‍ significant damage in​ the northern part of the ⁢Noto Peninsula in ⁣Ishikawa Prefecture. The aftermath of the disaster has been devastating, with 10 ⁢confirmed deaths ‍so far. On Wednesday, a body was found in Wajima, and authorities are investigating its connection to the heavy rain. ⁤Over‌ the weekend, two more bodies were discovered, one in Wajima and another in Noto.

The search for missing individuals or those who cannot be contacted ⁢is ongoing. ​Early Saturday morning, search efforts​ intensified in the ⁤Futegawa⁤ area of Wajima where two people remain unreachable due to flooding from the Tsukada River.‌ Approximately 530 personnel were ‍involved in this‍ extensive⁢ search operation.

According to reports from the prefectural government ​on ‌Friday afternoon, a total of 456 people were seeking refuge across 27 evacuation centers‌ located in ‍Wajima, Suzu, and Noto.⁢ Additionally, water supply remained cut off for 4,253 households across these three municipalities. Furthermore,⁣ road closures affected transportation as there were 29 ⁣locations on 18 routes within the Noto region that remained inaccessible.

The impact‌ of these record-breaking rains continues to be felt⁤ by residents and authorities alike as they work tirelessly to address the aftermath of​ this natural disaster.
