Chinese President Xi Jinping has reached out to new Japanese Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba, urging the two countries to establish a stable relationship, according to the Chinese Foreign Ministry. In a congratulatory telegram sent on Tuesday, President Xi emphasized the importance of Tokyo and Beijing working together in the interest of their respective peoples. He expressed his hope that China and Japan would strengthen their mutually beneficial strategic relationship and build constructive and stable bilateral ties that align with the demands of the new era. Chinese Premier Li Qiang also sent a congratulatory message to Ishiba.
China has expressed concerns about Ishiba’s security policies, particularly his proposal for an Asian version of NATO. However, there are some who believe that China may find common ground with Ishiba on historical issues.
