The Los Angeles Lakers will be without LeBron James for their preseason opener against the Minnesota Timberwolves, as he will be resting, according to ESPN. This comes as a surprise considering training camp just started this week. However, James is entering his 22nd NBA season, tying Vince Carter for the most seasons played in NBA history. Additionally, James will turn 40 years old in December and it’s natural for the body to not recover as quickly in your 40s compared to your younger years.
Although James won’t be playing on Friday night, he plans on suiting up for the Lakers’ second preseason game against the Phoenix Suns on Sunday. While missing a preseason game may not have much significance it does delay the highly anticipated debut of watching James play alongside his son Bronny James. The Lakers drafted Bronny in the second round back in June.
There is a lot of attention surrounding Bronny’s first NBA game and seeing him play alongside his father. However, fans will have to wait a little longer as LeBron recovers from rest.
With LeBron out of action, all eyes will be on Bronny as he prepares for his first NBA appearance. This could actually work out better for him since he can play without the added pressure that comes with having his dad on the court with him before they eventually team up together.
It remains unclear how much playing time Bronny will get during these preseason games. Nevertheless, this is an excellent opportunity for young players like him to gain more experience before spending most of their time either on the bench or in the G League during regular season games. And while LeBron won’t be out there physically supporting his son during these games, you can bet that he’ll be cheering him on loudly from the sidelines.
