have signed kicker Matthew Wright to replace the injured Jake Moody, according to ESPN‘s Adam Schefter. The team held a tryout on Monday and evaluated four kickers before making the decision. Wright, who entered the NFL as an undrafted free agent with the Pittsburgh Steelers in 2019, has since had stints with the Jacksonville Jaguars, Kansas City Chiefs, and Carolina Panthers. He also spent five days with the 49ers in 2023.Throughout his career, Wright has successfully converted 40 of 47 field goal attempts and 35 of 37 extra point attempts. Moody suffered a high-ankle sprain during Sunday’s game against the Arizona Cardinals while attempting to make a tackle on a kickoff return following a blocked field goal that was returned for a touchdown by the special teams unit.
Moody is expected to be out for an extended period of time. Head coach Kyle Shanahan commented after the game that he was unsure about the severity of Moody’s injury but mentioned it was a high-ankle sprain, which typically requires significant recovery time. Shanahan did not provide an update during Monday morning’s conference call with reporters.
Moody has been performing well this season, connecting on 13 of his 14 field goal attempts and being perfect on field goals under 50 yards. He has also made all twelve extra point attempts. The San Francisco 49ers selected Moody out of Michigan with a third-round pick in the 2023 NFL Draft.
In related news, there are other injury updates regarding Jake Moody and Talanoa Hufanga for their upcoming game against the Arizona Cardinals at Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara, California. Additionally, fans are becoming restless as they hope for improvement from their struggling team that currently holds a disappointing record.
