Possible Medical Issue May Have Led to Death of US Mother of 2 Before Shark Attack in Indonesia

An American tourist who was killed by a shark in Indonesia is believed to have died from a “medical issue” while ‌diving, according to‌ friends. Colleen Monfore, a retired mother of‌ two from Holland, Michigan, was on a seven-week diving tour‍ with her husband when tragedy struck on September 26. Monfore disappeared during a group dive around Pulau Reong island and two weeks later, fishermen in Timor-Leste‌ caught the shark that had ⁢human remains in its belly. Authorities were able to identify Monfore from the body’s fingerprints. Friends of the couple examined photos from the dive and spoke with Mike at‌ length about the incident. They believe that Monfore suffered some kind‍ of medical‍ issue in the ⁤water and was not killed by a shark. The friends described her as an experienced diver who knew what ⁣she ‍was doing. Shark attacks against divers are ​extremely‍ rare and there were only 69 confirmed unprovoked shark bites worldwide last year, according⁢ to the International⁤ Shark Attack File. It is
