Manchester United are currently struggling to score goals, which has led to speculation about potential attacking additions in the upcoming transfer windows. The team’s performance under manager Erik ten Hag has been unconvincing, with only two wins from their first seven Premier League games. What’s even more concerning is that they have only managed to score five goals during this period. Joshua Zirkzee, who was brought in from Bologna, has yet to find the back of the net since his arrival. Rasmus Hojlund, who recently returned from injury, may not be able to shoulder the burden alone as he did last season.
In light of these struggles, Manchester United have been linked with Eintracht Frankfurt forward Omar Marmoush. Caught Offside suggests that Arsenal, Liverpool, Nottingham Forest, and West Ham United are also interested in him. It is reported that Eintracht would consider offers around €30 million (£25 million) for Marmoush. However, considering that he is under contract until 2027 and Frankfurt’s history of selling players for large fees (such as Willian Pacho and Sebastien Haller), it is likely that it will take more than £25 million to secure his services.
Omar Marmoush emerged in Egypt with Wadi Degla before joining Wolfsburg at just 18 years old in 2017. After impressing on loan at St Pauli and Stuttgart in previous seasons, he scored five goals for Wolfsburg in the 2022-23 season before moving to Eintracht on a free transfer. Last season, Marmoush scored an impressive 17 goals across all competitions and has already netted nine goals with six assists this season.
Marmoush’s ability to play both out wide and up front could make him an appealing option for Manchester United. However, given their recent investment in Zirkzee and Hojlund’s arrival just over a year ago, it would be surprising if a deal were to materialize during the January transfer window.
Overall though there seems little doubt that Manchester United need another attacking option if they are going turn their fortunes around this season.
