Kawasaki Heavy Industries, Ltd. celebrated a significant milestone in the United States as it delivered its 5,000th railcar at a ceremony held in a New York City suburb on Wednesday. Having entered the U.S. market back in 1979, Kawasaki Heavy achieved this feat in late September.
These railcars have been widely utilized in subways across the country, with approximately 40% of New York’s railcars being supplied by Kawasaki Heavy. Hiroshi Murao, president of Kawasaki Railcar Manufacturing Co., a subsidiary responsible for manufacturing rolling stock, expressed his immense pleasure at the company’s ability to deliver such a large number of railcars throughout the United States.
Janno Lieber, chair and CEO of the Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA), acknowledged that thanks to Kawasaki Heavy’s exceptional railcars, New York City’s public transportation system has experienced revitalization.
This achievement marks an important milestone for Kawasaki Heavy Industries as it continues to contribute to public transportation infrastructure across America.
