A power outage in Brooklyn left thousands of customers without electricity on Thursday morning. Con Edison reported that a truck carrying dumpsters caused the outage by bringing down overhead wires in East Flatbush at around 7:45 a.m. The incident affected 9,735 customers in the Flatbush and East Flatbush neighborhoods. Power was restored by 11 a.m., according to the utility company. Witnesses described hearing a loud explosion and experiencing a sudden loss of power in the area. Street lights were also affected, and individuals had to be rescued from an elevator in at least one building. Con Edison is urging its customers to report any outages and check its outage map for updates.
