Actor and singer Kevin Costner has released a new song called “Find Your Way” in an effort to provide relief for the victims of Hurricane Helene and Hurricane Milton. The single was released on October 11 by Costner’s band Modern West, with all proceeds going to Hope Force International (HFI) in Brentwood, Tennessee. HFI is a Christian organization that offers support and aid during disasters.
Costner expressed his hope that the song would provide refuge for those who are struggling and losing hope. He shared on his Instagram account, “I’ve gone through seasons of darkness where I clung to the lyrics of songs that really carried me through… I hope that ‘Find Your Way’ provides that kind of refuge for anyone trudging through and losing sight of hope.”
To donate and download the song, the public can visit Bandcamp where they can contribute any amount they can afford, with a minimum donation of $1.25.
Hurricanes Helene and Milton caused significant damage in Florida, as well as other states along their paths. The death toll from Hurricane Helene has reached over 230 people so far.
Modern West is a rock band founded by Costner in 2007. The band members include Teddy Morgan, Park Chisolm, John Coinman, Blair Forward, Larry Cobb, Matt Combs, and singer-songwriter Kat Higgins who co-wrote ”Find Your Way” with Costner.
In addition to Costner’s efforts, other celebrities have also stepped up to help hurricane victims. Pop star Taylor Swift donated $5 million while Blake Lively and Ryan Reynolds donated $1 million towards relief efforts.
NFL Quarterback Tom Brady contributed $100k to the Volunteer Florida Foundation while Dolly Parton donated $1 million to the Mountain Ways Foundation. Metallica’s non-profit organization All Within My Hands Foundation donated $50k to World Central Kitchen and $500k to Team Rubicon for hurricane relief.
Experts suggest that celebrities using their social media platforms can generate more awareness and funds for causes like these during times of crisis.
