Mycoplasma pneumonia, a common disease among children, has been diagnosed at a rate of 1.94 cases per medical institution (preliminary figures) in 500 institutions nationwide that reported cases during the week ending Oct. 6, according to the National Institute of Infectious Diseases. This breaks the previous week’s record and raises concerns about the spread of infections as we enter autumn and winter.
Symptoms of this disease include fever, general lethargy, and coughing. Even after the fever subsides, the coughing can persist for three to four weeks. To prevent infection, it is recommended to practice daily hand washing, wear a mask when coughing, and avoid sharing towels within households.
