Former President Donald Trump criticized experts for their predictions about the negative economic effects of his policies during an interview with Bloomberg News. Speaking at the Economic Club of Chicago, Trump stated that these experts were “wrong about everything.” The interview took place in front of an audience of around 600 people.
Vice President Kamala Harris, who was Trump’s opponent in the recent election, declined an invitation to do a similar interview with Bloomberg. The Epoch Times reached out to Harris’ campaign for comment but received no response.
During the interview, Trump discussed his support for tariffs and business-friendly policies such as reduced corporate taxes. He argued that these measures would bring companies back to the United States and boost the economy. When questioned about potential negative effects of tariffs, Trump responded by saying that building plants in the US would eliminate any tariffs.
Trump also addressed concerns raised by investors and analysts about his proposed policies driving up debt, inflation, and interest rates. He dismissed these concerns and pointed out that there was no inflation during his presidency.
The former president emphasized that his success depended on both his personality and relationships with world leaders. He cited examples where other countries acquiesced to his demands due to fear of tariffs or other consequences.
When asked about private phone calls with Russian President Vladimir Putin after leaving office, Trump declined to comment but stated that having a relationship with world leaders is beneficial for a country.
The discussion then shifted towards immigration, where Trump expressed support for legal immigration while emphasizing the need for strong border control. He highlighted a federal report revealing high numbers of illegal immigrants being released into the US.
Regarding the upcoming presidential election in 2024, Trump mentioned Pennsylvania as a crucial state but also highlighted Michigan and Arizona as important states to watch. Recent opinion polls showed a close race between him and Harris in several battleground states.
Trump concluded by stating that early voting tallies would provide insight into how Republicans are faring compared to Democrats in terms of voter turnout. He described Republicans as “the party of common sense” focused on issues like border security and fair elections.
