The Memphis Grizzlies have signed Scotty Pippen Jr., a two-way guard, to a standard, multiyear NBA contract. Pippen, the son of Hall of Famer Scottie Pippen, went undrafted in 2022 but had a successful three-year college career at Vanderbilt. He initially signed a two-way deal with the Los Angeles Lakers for the 2022-23 season but didn’t get many opportunities to play at the NBA level.
However, in January 2024, Pippen signed another two-way deal with the Grizzlies and got more playing time due to injuries on the team. He made good use of this opportunity and averaged 12.9 points per game on nearly 50% shooting and almost 42% from beyond the arc. Despite his small stature as a point guard, Pippen’s defense stood out as he averaged 1.7 steals per game.
The upcoming season may be different for Pippen as he is expected to settle into a smaller reserve role with Ja Morant and other veterans returning from injury. Last season allowed the Grizzlies to evaluate potential long-term fits like Pippen, GG Jackson, and Vince Williams who have all received NBA contracts since then. These young players will provide valuable depth for the team as they aim to contend in the playoffs once again.
signing Scotty Pippen Jr. to a multiyear contract is an important move for the Memphis Grizzlies as they strengthen their roster with talented young players who can contribute both offensively and defensively.
