A city near Osaka has recently issued a call for foreign residents in Japan to apply for the opportunity to portray a feudal warlord in a local festival. The government of Daito in Osaka Prefecture is seeking an individual to assume the role of Miyoshi Nagayoshi, a powerful lord who governed the region and the island of Shikoku during Japan’s “Sengoku” warring states period.
The chosen candidate will have the honor of playing this historical figure during Daito’s samurai procession festival, which will take place in March. This initiative comes as part of the city’s preparations for the upcoming 2025 World Expo in Osaka, scheduled to commence in April next year.
Applications are open to any foreign resident aged 18 or older who is willing to fully commit themselves to participating in the parade on March 1st. The city has assured that it will provide traditional armor and other necessary costume elements for the successful applicant.
Miyoshi Nagayoshi was born in 1522 within what is now known as Tokushima Prefecture on Shikoku Island. He met his demise at a castle located in Daito back in 1564.
This event presents an exciting opportunity for foreign residents living within Japan to immerse themselves into Japanese history and culture by embodying this influential feudal lord. It also serves as an excellent platform for promoting cultural exchange between locals and foreigners alike.
