Man in wheelchair killed after being hit by truck Chiba; driver arrested

Police in Yachimata,‌ Chiba Prefecture, have apprehended a 59-year-old man ⁤on‌ charges of dangerous driving​ resulting in‌ death. ⁢The incident ⁣took place on Friday at approximately 9 p.m. According to reports from NHK, ⁣the⁢ suspect, identified as Masaharu Ito, struck and killed⁢ a 74-year-old man named Yoshio Ishiguro ‍while driving his truck. Ishiguro was⁤ in a wheelchair⁢ at the time of the accident.

Authorities stated that Ishiguro‌ was traveling along the side of the ⁤road when he was hit from behind by Ito’s truck. He was immediately transported to ​a nearby hospital but unfortunately succumbed ⁣to his ⁢injuries about an hour and⁢ a ‌half later.

The accident‍ occurred ​on a straight road with one lane in each direction. The area is characterized by​ houses scattered among fields and is located approximately‍ 5 kilometers south ‍of JR Yachimata Station.
