Police in Yachimata, Chiba Prefecture, have apprehended a 59-year-old man on charges of dangerous driving resulting in death. The incident took place on Friday at approximately 9 p.m. According to reports from NHK, the suspect, identified as Masaharu Ito, struck and killed a 74-year-old man named Yoshio Ishiguro while driving his truck. Ishiguro was in a wheelchair at the time of the accident.
Authorities stated that Ishiguro was traveling along the side of the road when he was hit from behind by Ito’s truck. He was immediately transported to a nearby hospital but unfortunately succumbed to his injuries about an hour and a half later.
The accident occurred on a straight road with one lane in each direction. The area is characterized by houses scattered among fields and is located approximately 5 kilometers south of JR Yachimata Station. Due to limited streetlights and poor visibility during nighttime hours, this section of road poses potential hazards for drivers.
