Mos Food Services Inc., the operator of the popular Mos Burger chain, has recently ventured into a new business endeavor. They have opened a mos-burger-operator-opens-drink-stand-to-reduce-food-waste-aiming-for-4-ton-reduction-annually/” title=”Mos Burger Operator Opens Drink Stand to Reduce Food Waste, Aiming for 4-Ton Reduction Annually”>drink stand that specializes in offering juices and smoothies made from vegetables that are not suitable for their burgers.
The first Stand by Mos outlet was launched earlier this month at Ikebukuro Station on the Tobu Tojo Line in Tokyo. Despite its small size, measuring only about 16 square meters, the drink stand is exclusively for takeout. One of its signature offerings is tomato juice, priced at 420 yen for 180 milliliters.
What sets this drink stand apart is that it utilizes vegetables that would otherwise go to waste due to their imperfections. These vegetables may be too small or have some scars, making them unsuitable as burger ingredients but still perfectly fine for juicing.
By selling these drinks, Mos Food Services aims to reduce food waste by more than 4 tons per year. The compact nature of drink stands allows them to operate efficiently with just blenders and refrigerators. Depending on the success of this first outlet, the company plans to explore opening additional stands at other railway stations or commercial complexes.
This innovative initiative not only provides customers with refreshing and healthy beverage options but also contributes towards sustainability efforts by minimizing food waste. With its convenient location and unique concept, Stand by Mos is poised to make a positive impact in both the culinary and environmental realms.
