Nine people fell ill at a clinic in Hiroshima on Monday morning due to exposure to fumes resulting from the accidental mixing of two chemicals, local authorities have confirmed. The affected individuals were promptly transferred to a nearby hospital, where it was determined that their conditions were not life-threatening. The incident occurred when an employee at the clinic made an emergency call around 9:30 a.m., expressing concerns that staff members had been exposed to chlorine gas. Subsequently, the clinic reported to the local public health center that the fumes emerged as a result of combining acetic acid and sodium hypochlorite during preparations for dialysis treatments. Several staff members experienced eye pain and coughing as a result of this incident.
