Kishida and Hagerty Emphasize Japan-U.S. Cooperation; Enduring Bond Despite Leadership Changes

Prime Minister Fumio Kishida held a meeting ⁣with former U.S. Ambassador to Japan and‍ Senator William Hagerty‌ at the ​Prime Minister’s Office on Friday. The ‌purpose ​of the meeting was to ⁤reaffirm the importance of Japan-U.S. cooperation in addressing issues related to China and North Korea.

During⁤ the meeting, Prime Minister Kishida emphasized that⁤ the Japan-U.S. alliance remains steadfast and unwavering. He called for continued ‌cooperation between the two countries in ⁤order to maintain and strengthen peace and ⁢prosperity in not only the Indo-Pacific region but also in international society⁤ as a whole.

Senator Hagerty,​ known for ⁢his close⁤ association with former U.S. President ​Donald ‌Trump, stressed that regardless of who leads either‌ nation, the ‌bond between Japan and the⁤ United States will⁣ remain unchanged. This⁣ statement ​takes into consideration both the upcoming Liberal ​Democratic Party leadership election in September and the U.S. presidential⁤ election in November.

In addition⁢ to their meeting with Prime Minister Kishida, Senator‌ Hagerty and his delegation also had discussions⁣ with Foreign ‌Minister Yoko‍ Kamikawa, ⁢Defense Minister Minoru Kihara, as well as Akira Amari, ⁣former secretary general ⁢of the Liberal Democratic Party.
