Prime Minister Fumio Kishida took to social media platform X, formerly known as Twitter, to express his gratitude towards South Korean President Yoon Suk Yeol after their meeting in Seoul. Kishida, who had just returned from his trip to South Korea, fondly reminisced about Yoon’s visit to Japan in March of last year. In a post, he shared that he has particularly cherished memories of enjoying sukiyaki with Yoon and their wives in Tokyo’s Ginza district.
Expressing his appreciation for the South Korean President’s support, Kishida stated that he would be grateful if Yoon could continue assisting efforts for further development of Japan-South Korea relations. The two leaders had reached an agreement on Friday to promote cooperative measures aimed at maintaining good bilateral relations. This initiative is in anticipation of the upcoming 60th anniversary of the normalization of diplomatic relations between Japan and South Korea next year.
The use of social media by political figures has become increasingly common as a means to communicate with the public and share personal experiences or sentiments. Prime Minister Kishida’s post serves as an example of this trend, allowing him to connect directly with citizens and convey his appreciation for President Yoon’s hospitality during their recent meeting.
As diplomatic ties between Japan and South Korea continue to evolve, it is crucial for leaders from both nations to foster cooperation and understanding. The upcoming milestone anniversary provides an opportunity for reflection on past achievements while also setting the stage for future collaboration between these neighboring countries.
