Man who killed ex-wife in Nara coffee shop had been issued restraining order

Police⁤ in Kashihara ​City, Nara Prefecture, have reported that a 45-year-old man⁢ has been arrested on suspicion of⁣ killing his 47-year-old ex-wife in ⁢a coffee shop​ last week. It has been revealed⁣ that the⁣ suspect had⁢ previously been issued a restraining ​order.

According to authorities, the victim, Harumi Takaishi, ​had filed a complaint‌ with the police last ⁣November regarding her ex-husband’s behavior. She claimed that Hiroki Takaishi, who works as a demolition worker,‌ had been stalking her.

The incident occurred at Komeda ​Coffee in Kashihara ​City at around​ 1:20 ​p.m. ⁤on September 5th when the suspect ​stabbed his ex-wife in the neck. Tragically, she later ⁢succumbed to ⁤her injuries⁢ due to blood loss.

Police investigations have uncovered previous ⁣instances of domestic violence involving Harumi and her family consulting with ⁤law enforcement about‌ Takaishi three years ago.​ In May‌ 2021, ‍he was arrested on suspicion of‍ domestic abuse but was‍ subsequently released.

In ‍response to Takaishi’s presence near Harumi’s residence last November, ‌the Nara District ⁤Court issued a six-month restraining order against him. ​Police maintained regular​ contact with Harumi and even checked up on her as recently as⁢ August 21st.

After the expiration ⁤of‍ the restraining order,⁤ Takaishi accompanied by a relative went⁢ to meet his ex-wife at the coffee shop on September 5th. ​The purpose ⁤of their meeting‌ was reportedly to discuss Harumi’s belongings ​and other items left at ‌Takaishi’s house.
