Police in Kashihara City, Nara Prefecture, have reported that a 45-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of killing his 47-year-old ex-wife in a coffee shop last week. It has been revealed that the suspect had previously been issued a restraining order.
According to authorities, the victim, Harumi Takaishi, had filed a complaint with the police last November regarding her ex-husband’s behavior. She claimed that Hiroki Takaishi, who works as a demolition worker, had been stalking her.
The incident occurred at Komeda Coffee in Kashihara City at around 1:20 p.m. on September 5th when the suspect stabbed his ex-wife in the neck. Tragically, she later succumbed to her injuries due to blood loss.
Police investigations have uncovered previous instances of domestic violence involving Harumi and her family consulting with law enforcement about Takaishi three years ago. In May 2021, he was arrested on suspicion of domestic abuse but was subsequently released.
In response to Takaishi’s presence near Harumi’s residence last November, the Nara District Court issued a six-month restraining order against him. Police maintained regular contact with Harumi and even checked up on her as recently as August 21st.
After the expiration of the restraining order, Takaishi accompanied by a relative went to meet his ex-wife at the coffee shop on September 5th. The purpose of their meeting was reportedly to discuss Harumi’s belongings and other items left at Takaishi’s house.
