The recent case of a fugitive former Filipina mayor with alleged ties to Chinese criminal syndicates has raised concerns about national security in the Philippines. This comes at a time when tensions between the Philippines and China over maritime territories are already high.
According to Tansingco, the Indonesian Immigration Department has been tracking Guo in Jakarta. An extradition request has been filed with the Indonesian authorities, and both sides are working closely together.
On August 22, Shiela Guo and Cassandra Li Ong were intercepted in Indonesia and brought back to the Philippines for investigation. The Philippine National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) identified Shiela Guo as holding a Chinese passport under the name Zhang Mier.
The Bureau of Immigration (BI) discovered that Alice Guo’s escape route took her through Malaysia, Singapore, and Indonesia.
In addition to Guo, there are 35 other individuals who have been indicted. This includes Cassandra Li Ong, Shiela Guo, and several officials from POGO-related hubs such as QSeed Genetics, Zun Yuan Technology Inc., Hongshen Gaming Technology Inc., QJJ Farms, and Baofu Land Development Inc. These hubs were all connected to Guo during her time as Bamban mayor.
Cassandra Li Ong is a shareholder and representative of Lucky South 99 Outsourcing Inc., an illegal online gaming company based in Porac province in northern Philippines. The Philippine Department of Justice has stated that the activities of these two women reveal a link between POGOs in Porac and Bamban.
