Selena Gomez discloses inability to have children due to health concerns

Selena Gomez, the 32-year-old singer and actress, recently opened up about her desire to start a family in a cover story for Vanity Fair. In the interview published on​ September 9, Gomez revealed that she is unable to carry her own children due to medical issues that could put both her life and the baby’s at risk.

Despite this setback, Gomez expressed gratitude for the alternatives available to her. She acknowledged that surrogacy and adoption are⁤ both viable options and considers them blessings. Having been adopted herself, Gomez understands the importance of these avenues for individuals who are eager to⁣ become parents.

Gomez has been open about her health challenges in the past. In 2013, she was diagnosed with lupus, an autoimmune ⁤disease that can cause various symptoms such as fatigue, joint pain ‌or swelling, headaches, chest pain, and hair loss. Lupus can also affect ​fertility and increase complications during pregnancy.

In September 2017, Gomez underwent a kidney transplant due to damage caused by lupus.‌ She shared on Instagram that her friend Francia Raisa had selflessly donated her kidney. The singer expressed immense gratitude towards Raisa for giving her⁤ “the ultimate gift.”

In‌ addition to physical health struggles, Gomez has also⁢ been vocal about her mental health journey. Her documentary titled “My Mind &‌ Me,” released in 2022, delves into this topic. According to Access Hollywood’s coverage of a​ South by Southwest panel discussion in March of this year, Gomez described filming the documentary as a release from hiding and anxiety.

Selena Gomez remains optimistic about starting a​ family despite facing obstacles along the way. She believes she is now in a better place ‌mentally and emotionally as she continues on this unique path⁣ towards motherhood.
