Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca has confirmed that Ben Chilwell will be included in the Premier League squad for this season. The final squad announcement is set to be made on Friday, and there were doubts surrounding Chilwell’s inclusion after Maresca publicly expressed his preference for a different style of left-back.
Despite speculation about a potential summer exit, Chilwell remained with the team and faced the possibility of being left out of the senior squad. However, Maresca has now put those doubts to rest by confirming that Chilwell will indeed be part of the squad.
When asked directly about Chilwell’s inclusion, Maresca responded with a simple “Yes.” He further added that although Chilwell is currently not training with the team, he is expected to join them soon. Maresca stated that they will assess his situation and if they decide he should be included in the squad, he will be one of their players.
Another player who has been welcomed back into the fold is midfielder Carney Chukwuemeka. Like Chilwell, he was encouraged by Maresca to explore other options away from Chelsea. However, due to a lack of suitable solutions, Chukwuemeka remains part of the squad.
Maresca emphasized his admiration for Carney but acknowledged that finding playing time might be challenging due to their abundance of attacking midfielders. He suggested that it would have been beneficial for Carney to prove himself elsewhere by playing consistently before returning to Chelsea.
both Ben Chilwell and Carney Chukwuemeka have been confirmed as members of Chelsea’s Premier League squad this season according to manager Enzo Maresca.
