Luisangel Acuña Joins Mets in Promotion

There ⁤is a ‍new addition to the big leagues⁤ in Philadelphia. The Mets’ 12th-ranked prospect, Luisangel Acuña, has been performing well in Triple-A Syracuse ⁢with a batting average of .258, an on-base percentage of .299, and a slugging percentage ‌of .355. He has hit seven home runs and stolen 40 bases‌ in 131 games.

To ⁤make room for⁢ Acuña, ⁤the Mets have optioned outfielder DJ ‌Stewart. This move is not⁢ related to Francisco Lindor’s back tightness injury, which the team considers minor and expects him to recover from quickly. However, it does ‍strengthen their bench by providing another middle-infield ⁢option alongside Lindor, Jose Iglesias,⁢ and Eddy Alvarez.

Acuña has showcased his versatility at Syracuse by playing ‍shortstop, second base, and center field.⁣ The Mets acquired him in a trade for Max Scherzer before last year’s Trade Deadline. Although he started the season as their third-ranked prospect and was ranked 66th overall in baseball, his inconsistency at the highest ‍Minor League level caused him to drop on⁢ those lists.

Nevertheless, Acuña brings a unique combination of speed and defensive skills that can be valuable for the Mets ‍coming off the bench during this crucial stretch of games.
