Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver Marquise “Hollywood” Brown has been placed on injured reserve due to a shoulder injury that requires surgery, according to sources. It is unlikely that Brown will be able to play in the regular season, with sources indicating that his return may not happen until mid-January at the earliest. Chiefs coach Andy Reid stated that Brown would need to sit out for ”months” rather than weeks due to the sternoclavicular injury.
The injury occurred during the Chiefs’ first preseason game against the Jaguars on August 10th when Brown caught a pass. Although he did not play in their season-opening victory over the Ravens, there was hope that he could return as early as Sunday’s home game against the Bengals.
Rick Burkholder, the Chiefs’ vice president for sports medicine and performance, mentioned that Brown had been making progress in rehab. However, a recent check revealed that there had been movement in the bone of his shoulder, leading to the decision for surgery.
Brown joined the Chiefs as a major offseason free agent signing after spending two seasons with the Cardinals. His most successful season was with Baltimore in 2021 when he recorded 91 receptions for 1,008 yards.
