Ange Postecoglou, the manager of Tottenham Hotspur, remains optimistic about his team’s chances this season despite their recent 1-0 defeat to Arsenal in the north London derby. Arsenal secured their third consecutive away win against rivals Tottenham on Sunday, with Gabriel scoring a stunning header to settle the match. Despite having a weakened midfield, Spurs failed to take advantage and allowed Arsenal to claim all three points.
When asked about his feelings after the defeat, Postecoglou did not hold back. He was asked if his team can win this season and responded assertively: “Am I going to answer the question or are you going to keep asking it? No, absolutely. I’ll correct myself. I don’t usually win things, I always win things in my second year.”
Postecoglou also addressed concerns about set pieces and made it clear that he does care about them: “For some reason people think I don’t care about set pieces and it’s a narrative that you can keep going on for ages and ages. Like I said, we work on them all the time like we do for every other team.”
Despite handling set pieces well for most of the game against Arsenal, Spurs switched off at one crucial moment and paid the price. Postecoglou emphasized that they need to be clear-headed in such moments and it is his role as a manager to guide them in the right direction.
Spurs will have an opportunity to bounce back when they face Coventry City in the Carabao Cup on Wednesday.
