Actress Brooke Shields has teamed up with GSK’s “Thrive@50+” campaign, proving that age is just a number. In an interview with People magazine, the 59-year-old expressed her belief that life after 50 should be associated with positivity rather than negativity. Shields hopes to educate adults aged 50 and older about the power of aging and health protection, particularly in relation to shingles risk.
According to the National Council on Aging, adults over 60 account for approximately half of all shingles cases in the United States. The “Thrive@50+” initiative aims to promote healthy aging while highlighting the importance of recognizing both the power and new health considerations that come with age.
Shields emphasized the significance of understanding one’s own control over their health and saw partnering with “Thrive@50+” as an obvious choice. She believes that being over 50 is not an end but rather a beginning of a new chapter.
Having risen to fame as a teen model in the 1980s, Shields has since expanded her career into television personality, entrepreneur, and most importantly, motherhood. She sees turning 50 as an opportunity for personal growth and reflection.
Shields shares two daughters with her husband Chris Henchy and recently became empty nesters when their youngest daughter went off to college. Earlier this year, she released her book titled “Brooke Shields Is Not Allowed to Get Old,” which offers readers a fresh perspective on midlife journeys.
Based on her own experiences and research, Shields aims to change society’s perception of women and aging through honesty and vulnerability in her book. She wants to spark a new conversation about the power and promise of midlife.
While acknowledging physical changes that come with age, Shields believes that feeling good mentally and physically is what truly matters. She strives to maintain strength and physical fitness while embracing all opportunities for vibrancy at this stage in life.
