Actor Wilmer Valderrama, known for his roles in “That ’70s Show” and ”NCIS,” reflected on a profound experience he had as a United Service Organizations (USO) Global Ambassador in 2007. During a visit to the Landstuhl Regional Medical Center in Germany, Valderrama met injured American soldiers recovering from their wounds. He described his purpose as an entertainer and ambassador, aiming to bring serenity and a piece of home to these brave individuals.
Valderrama’s book, “An American Story: Everyone’s Invited,” delves into his experiences as a USO Global Ambassador. He expressed admiration for the courage and pride exhibited by wounded soldiers who continue to wear their uniforms despite their injuries.
One soldier, in particular, captured Valderrama’s heart as he was likely the sole survivor from his unit that had been hit hard. The actor was deeply moved by the soldiers’ dedication to serving their country and sacrificing for its flag.
The USO is a private nonprofit organization that provides support to U.S. Armed Forces troops and their families. Valderrama’s involvement with the USO has garnered praise from Mark Goldman of Goldman McCormick Public Relations firm, who believes it enhances his image through authenticity.
Valderrama has embarked on 60 USO tours and engagements across various countries including Afghanistan, Iraq, Greenland, Bahrain, Poland, South Korea, and Djibouti.
Gary Frayter, a celebrity brand consultant commended Valderrama for showcasing patriotism through his efforts to raise awareness about the challenges faced by American troops. Frayter emphasized that celebrities have the ability to reach wider audiences and provide much-needed support for those serving in the military.
Although Valderrama did not respond to requests for comment regarding this matter specifically; he was born in Miami but spent part of his childhood in Venezuela before moving with his family to Los Angeles where he pursued acting. Throughout his career; he has been romantically linked with Lindsey Lohan and Demi Lovato before getting engaged to model Amanda Pacheco with whom he shares a daughter.
Frayter concluded by stating that celebrities can make an impact without wearing uniforms themselves by visiting wounded soldiers at military hospitals or participating in entertainment events dedicated specifically for troops.
