Metropolitan Police Department officials gathered at a memorial service to honor the police dogs that played a crucial role in criminal investigations and searches for missing persons. The service, held at a pet funeral home in Itabashi Ward, Tokyo, was attended by 26 officials from the Identification Division on Monday.
During the ceremony, prayers were offered for seven police dogs that had passed away after July 2023. Among them was a German shepherd who played a pivotal role in locating the remains of a schoolgirl who had been missing since 2019. In May 2022, this brave canine discovered her remains in the mountains of Doshi, Yamanashi Prefecture.
Expressing their gratitude towards these loyal companions and valuable partners, one officer stated that they organized this memorial service as a way to acknowledge and appreciate all of their hard work.
The Metropolitan Police Department recognizes the significant contributions made by these police dogs and understands their importance in aiding law enforcement efforts. This solemn event serves as an opportunity to pay tribute to these remarkable animals who have selflessly served alongside officers throughout their careers.
By holding this memorial service, it not only honors the memory of these courageous canines but also highlights the deep bond between humans and animals within law enforcement agencies. The dedication shown by these police dogs is truly commendable and deserves recognition.
As we reflect on their invaluable contributions, let us remember and appreciate the unwavering loyalty and dedication displayed by our four-legged heroes who have left an indelible mark on our society through their exceptional service.
