College Gameday is coming to town for the highly anticipated SEC matchup between the South Carolina Gamecocks and the LSU Tigers. The Gamecocks are riding high after a dominant victory over the Kentucky Wildcats, while LSU is looking for their first big win of the season.
One of the key battles in this game will be between South Carolina’s defensive line and LSU’s offensive line. The Gamecocks’ defensive line has been impressive so far, with 9 sacks, 10 tackles for loss, and 4 forced fumbles in their first two games. However, they haven’t faced an offensive line as talented as LSU’s. Will Campbell and Emery Jones Jr. anchor one of the best offensive lines in the country, with Campbell only giving up one sack in his career.
During coach Beamer’s press conference, he praised LSU’s new defensive coordinator Blake Baker. Baker had previously coached at Missouri and had success against South Carolina in their previous matchups. Now he is tasked with improving an underwhelming LSU defense from last season.
South Carolina should find success running the ball with their talented group of running backs led by LaNorris Sellers. The passing game will also be important for them to continue evolving, especially with freshman receiver Mazeo Bennett Jr., who was their leading receiver last week.
LSU has a history of producing star receivers, and this year is no different with fifth-year receiver Kyren Lacy emerging as a go-to option. Behind Lacy are sophomore Aaron Anderson and tight end Mason Taylor.
South Carolina will rely on their talented defensive line and secondary to slow down LSU’s passing attack led by quarterback Garrett Nussmeier.
this SEC matchup promises to be an exciting game filled with intriguing battles on both sides of the ball.
