Barcelona Football Club has announced that they will be sporting the logo of British pop band Coldplay on their shirts for the first El Clasico match of the 2024/25 La Liga season. This collaboration is part of Spotify’s sponsorship of Barcelona, which has previously featured logos from artists such as Drake, The Rolling Stones, and Rosalia on their home shirts.
A total of 1,899 limited edition shirts will be available for purchase online, with an additional 22 glow-in-the-dark versions also being made available. Out of these, 11 will be signed by the men’s team and 11 by the women’s team. All net proceeds from the sales will go to the UN Refugee Agency.
Coldplay is set to release their new album ‘Moon Magic’, featuring collaborations with artists like Little Simz, Burna Boy, Elyanna, and TINI. In a press release about this partnership with Barcelona and Spotify, Coldplay expressed their honor at having their Moon Music design featured on Barcelona’s shirt. They also mentioned their longstanding special relationship with both the city and the club.
In addition to wearing the special edition shirt during El Clasico against Real Madrid on October 26th, Barcelona will have a Matchday playlist curated by Coldplay for this game. The match itself holds great significance as it could potentially determine early-season title contenders in La Liga. Currently sitting at the top of the league with eight wins out of nine matches played so far, Barcelona faces competition from Real Madrid who trail three points behind.
Before facing each other in El Clasico clash, both teams have one more fixture to play – Barcelona against Sevilla and Real Madrid against Celta Vigo – in both La Liga and Champions League respectively.
