The Cleveland Cavaliers have reached an agreement with Isaac Okoro on a three-year, $38 million deal, according to Adrian Wojnarowski. Okoro, who was a restricted free agent, will be returning to the Cavaliers for another season. It took some time for the two sides to come to an agreement, but ultimately they were able to finalize the deal. Okoro was the last remaining restricted free agent on the market.
Okoro was selected as the fifth overall pick in the 2020 NBA Draft and has played his entire career with the Cavaliers. Known for his defensive skills, he averaged 9.4 points, three rebounds, and 1.9 assists per game last season while starting in 42 games.
One of the most promising aspects of Okoro’s performance in the 2023-24 season was his improved shooting from beyond the arc. He shot a career-high 39.1% on 3-point attempts per game. While he still needs to become more confident as a shooter, his ability to threaten opponents from outside makes him even more valuable on both ends of the court.
Securing Okoro’s signature is just one part of a busy summer for the Cavaliers. After being eliminated in the second round of playoffs by Boston Celtics, they made changes by firing head coach JB Bickerstaff and hiring Kenny Atkinson as his replacement.
On top of that, they also secured contract extensions with Donovan Mitchell ($150 million), Evan Mobley ($224 million), Jarrett Allen ($91 million), and Darius Garland (previously extended in 2022). With these key players locked down for future seasons alongside Okoro, it seems that Cleveland is building towards success.
Looking ahead, their goal will be to build upon their recent achievements and make further progress in upcoming seasons. The team made it back into playoffs for first time since LeBron James’ departure and even won a playoff series without him for first time since 1993 last season.
