Shrimp have been discreetly placed at every station along the Tokaido Shinkansen line to commemorate its 60th anniversary. Central Japan Railway Co. (JR Tokai) has partnered with Calbee Inc. and its Kappa Ebisen snack, which has been available for 60 years. To mark the occasion, 60 stickers featuring the iconic shrimp logo were created. These stickers can be found in areas beyond the Shinkansen ticket gates at all 17 stations on the line, including Gifu-Hashima, Nagoya, Mikawa-Anjo, and Toyohashi.
Each station has three to four hidden shrimp located on pillars, walls, floors, and station name signs. Some stations even feature special “local shrimp,” while one of the 60 shrimp is a unique black and white variation. JR Tokai is currently running a campaign where participants can enter a drawing to win prizes based on how many stations they find shrimp at. Entries for this campaign will be accepted until October 9th.
This initiative serves as a fun way for travelers to engage with their surroundings while celebrating an important milestone in Japanese transportation history.
