City near Osaka seeks foreigners for warlord role in parade

A city near Osaka has⁣ recently issued a⁢ call for foreign residents in Japan ⁤to‍ apply for the opportunity to portray a feudal warlord in a local festival. The government of Daito in Osaka Prefecture is ⁣seeking an individual to assume the role of Miyoshi Nagayoshi, a powerful lord who governed the region and the island of Shikoku during Japan’s “Sengoku” warring states‌ period.

The chosen candidate‌ will have the honor of playing ⁢this historical figure during Daito’s samurai ⁤procession festival, which will take place in ⁣March. This initiative comes as part of the‌ city’s preparations ‍for the upcoming 2025 ⁢World Expo⁣ in Osaka, scheduled to⁢ commence in⁣ April ⁣next year.

Applications ⁤are ⁣open to any foreign resident aged 18 ⁤or older⁣ who is willing to⁢ fully commit themselves to participating in the parade on March 1st. The city has assured ⁣that it will ⁣provide traditional armor and other necessary costume elements for the successful​ applicant.

Miyoshi Nagayoshi was born in⁤ 1522 within what is ‍now‌ known as Tokushima Prefecture on Shikoku Island. He met his ⁤demise at a castle located in⁢ Daito back in 1564.
