Erik ten Hag, the manager of Manchester United, expressed confidence in Marcus Rashford’s abilities and believes that once he scores a goal or provides an assist, he will regain his form. Rashford has struggled to make an impact in the current season and has faced criticism for his performances over the past year.
For the match against Southampton, Rashford was included in United’s starting lineup alongside Amad. Ten Hag reiterated his belief that things will turn around for the 26-year-old Englishman.
“Not only today, but he’s in a good place and he needs a goal or an assist. Last game he had very good crosses,” Ten Hag told TNT Sports. ”That moment will come, we will wait for that momentum and then he will fly.”
Ten Hag also mentioned that all strikers want to score and from his experience, once they start scoring goals, their performance improves significantly.
In addition to Rashford’s inclusion, Manuel Ugarte was also part of United’s matchday squad after joining from Paris Saint-Germain for £43m. However, Ugarte started on the bench while Matthijs de Ligt, Noussair Mazraoui, and Joshua Zirkzee were named in the starting lineup as new arrivals.
Christian Eriksen made a return to United’s midfield instead of Casemiro due to his impressive performances during training sessions.
The Red Devils suffered a heavy defeat against Liverpool in their previous Premier League match with Mohamed Salah scoring his 12th goal against United. Meanwhile, newly-promoted Southampton has lost all three of their games so far this season and currently sits in the bottom three alongside Everton and Wolverhampton Wanderers.
