Filipino President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. has expressed his anger and frustration after a high-profile fugitive managed to leave the country undetected. The president’s office has instructed the justice and foreign secretaries to take action against Alice Guo, who is believed to be a Chinese national posing as a Filipina, along with her siblings and another woman.
The Philippine Police have been unable to locate Guo and her associates since they were ordered to be arrested by the Senate last month. The investigation into a Chinese-run Philippine Offshore Gaming Operator (POGO) revealed allegations of fraud, illegal detention, and human trafficking.
Despite being on a border force watchlist and having her face shown in the news for weeks, Guo was able to flee the country undetected and is now in Indonesia. President Marcos took to social media platform X to express his outrage at this incident, stating that heads will roll as a result of this corruption within the justice system.
A full-scale investigation is currently underway, with President Marcos vowing that those who aided Guo’s escape will be exposed and held accountable under the law. He emphasized that there is no place in his government for individuals who prioritize personal interests over serving the Filipino people with honor, integrity, and justice.
In response to these developments, President Marcos’ office directed the justice and foreign secretaries to cancel Guo’s passport along with those of her siblings and another individual wanted in connection with another POGO case. This action was taken in order to safeguard national security.
The exact details of how Guo managed to leave Philippines remain unclear; however immigration records indicate that she arrived in Malaysia from Indonesia on July 18 before traveling through Singapore on July 21 alongside her siblings Sheila Guo and Wesley Guo. On August 18th she returned back to Indonesia via ferry.
The Bureau of Immigration (BI) has stated that they have no record of Guo leaving Philippines despite both names being on their watchlist. BI Commissioner Norman Tansingco mentioned that canceling her travel documents could expedite extradition proceedings if necessary.
Guo’s lawyer claims she remains in Philippines but did not provide any evidence supporting this statement. The 34-year-old former mayor has been suspended from office after being linked as an owner of land used by a POGO complex involved in illegal activities such as human trafficking.
Senator Risa Hontiveros raised concerns about whether or not Guo was a Chinese spy due to inconsistencies regarding her identity during questioning. In June it was confirmed by National Bureau of Investigation that fingerprints matched those belonging Chinese national Huaping who moved at age 13 back in 2003
