The 2024 Orioles are being described as “battle tested” by Gunnar Henderson, who believes they will be fully prepared for the postseason. After a seemingly easy season last year, the lack of pressure may not have adequately prepared them for the final stretch. However, with a win against the Tigers on Saturday night, Baltimore is showing signs of firing on all cylinders and gearing up for October.
Since the All-Star break, the Orioles have maintained a steady performance without major fluctuations. They currently trail the Yankees by just two games in their division and hold a two-game lead over the Royals for the top AL Wild Card spot. While this is a favorable position to be in, Baltimore acknowledges that there is room for improvement and aims to cultivate a sense of urgency before facing high-stakes win-or-go-home baseball.
Henderson expressed his belief that being battle tested is beneficial after experiencing an undefeated season last year. He emphasized the need to play with more grit and unity this year in order to ignite their momentum once again.
In their recent game against Detroit, Henderson played a crucial role in sparking his team’s offense. Despite frustration from only securing one hit in the series opener, he led off with a walk and stole second base. In subsequent innings, Henderson contributed with hits that resulted in runs for Baltimore.
Henderson’s impact continued as he hit his 37th home run of the season during his seventh-inning at-bat, extending Baltimore’s lead to 4-0. His impressive September performance includes hitting .375 with multiple extra-base hits and RBIs.
