Increase in SSI and Social Security Benefits

Social Security and Supplemental Security Income⁢ benefits are set⁣ to increase in ⁢2025, according to the Social Security Administration. The monthly payments ⁣will see a 2.5% boost next ⁤year, thanks to an annual automatic cost-of-living adjustment (COLA) tied to inflation.

Individuals with disabilities who receive these benefits can expect more money in their pockets. The maximum federal benefit for SSI recipients will ⁣rise⁢ from $943 per month this‌ year to $967 per month in 2025. Couples will‍ also see an increase,⁤ with their monthly payment going up from $1,415 to $1,450.

It’s⁣ worth noting that actual payments could be higher for some individuals because certain states contribute additional funds.

Martin O’Malley, the commissioner of Social Security, highlighted the significance of these increases: “Social Security benefits and SSI payments will increase in 2025, helping tens of millions of people keep up⁤ with expenses ⁢even as inflation has⁤ started to cool.”

The new‌ payment amounts will take ⁤effect on December⁤ 31 for SSI recipients and in January for those receiving Social Security benefits. ⁢Beneficiaries can expect to⁤ receive notifications by mail in early December or access⁤ the information⁣ online through their⁢ Social ⁤Security ⁤account.

To make it easier for beneficiaries to understand their benefit amounts and deductions, the agency has⁢ introduced a simplified format for the notices.‌ This new format‍ provides clear information ⁤about dates and dollar amounts on one page using plain ‍language.

Over the past decade, COLA has averaged at ‍around 2.6%. However, ⁣there have been significant increases over the last three years: 3.2% this year, followed by 8.7% in 2023 and 5.9% in 2022.
