Japan and Ukraine agree on information security pact; JETRO to open office in Kyiv in October

Prime Minister Fumio⁤ Kishida of Japan held a ⁤meeting ⁣with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy in New York on Monday. During the meeting, it was confirmed that Japan and⁤ Ukraine have reached‌ an agreement in ‍principle on‌ an⁢ information security pact. This pact‍ will enable the two countries to exchange classified information⁤ regarding security⁤ matters. Kishida expressed Japan’s‍ commitment‍ to fully​ support Ukraine and ⁣announced that the Japan External Trade Organization ‍(JETRO) plans to open its Kyiv ‍office in October.

In recognition of his efforts in supporting Ukraine and leading ‌sanctions against Russia, Zelenskyy presented Kishida with the Order of Prince Yaroslav the Wise I degree, which is Ukraine’s highest order.

Furthermore, on Monday, Kishida hosted the High-Level Meeting to Launch the Friends ‍of a Fissile Material Cut-off Treaty. This meeting was attended by ​12 countries, including nuclear powers such as ‍the United ⁣States, Britain, and France. During the meeting, Kishida emphasized the need for strong political will to initiate negotiations for this treaty. A⁤ document released after the‍ meeting ⁣highlighted that achieving a world without⁢ nuclear ⁣weapons is a shared goal of the international community. It called for close cooperation among‍ nations to promptly commence ‍negotiations.
