Journalist Group Calls for Release of Detained Chinese Citizen Journalist in China

An international journalist advocacy group has expressed concern over the reported re-detention of a Chinese citizen reporter in Shanghai. This development has raised fresh worries about her well-being and the Chinese regime’s ongoing suppression of⁣ freedom of expression. The group is calling on the international ⁢community to ⁣take action and ensure her safety, as well as work towards securing her‍ release.

According ‌to reports, Zhang, the detained reporter, expressed reluctance to enter detention in a post on a ⁣Chinese social media platform. This comes after she spent four years in prison and has been under strict ⁢surveillance ever since. The advocacy group believes that this renewed detention is another attempt by Chinese authorities to ‍punish Zhang for her independent journalism.

Vincent, a spokesperson for the advocacy group, emphasized the urgency for diplomatic intervention from the international community. He stated that it is crucial for Beijing to be urged to guarantee Zhang’s safety and secure her immediate ⁤release.

In one of Zhang’s recent posts on X, dated August 28th, she highlighted an issue regarding education tied to property ownership: “If school enrollment is ‌tied ⁤to buying a house, the right to education loses its fairness and equality. In that case, ⁣education ⁢becomes corrupted.”

The situation surrounding Zhang’s detention serves as a reminder of China’s ongoing suppression⁤ of⁤ freedom of expression and‌ raises concerns about press freedom within the country. It remains important for global efforts to be made in order to⁤ protect journalists like Zhang and advocate ⁣for their⁣ rights.
