KC’s Brown to be sidelined until January, sources say

Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver Marquise “Hollywood”‍ Brown has been placed on injured reserve due to a ⁢shoulder injury⁤ that requires surgery, according to sources.‌ It is unlikely that⁣ Brown will be able to play ⁤in the regular season,‌ with sources indicating that his return may ‌not happen until mid-January at the earliest. Chiefs coach Andy ‌Reid stated ⁤that ‍Brown would need to sit out for ⁣”months” rather than weeks due to the sternoclavicular injury.

The injury occurred during the Chiefs’⁢ first⁣ preseason game against the ‌Jaguars on August 10th⁣ when Brown caught a pass. Although he did not‌ play in their season-opening victory⁤ over⁢ the ⁣Ravens, there was hope that he could return as early‌ as Sunday’s home game against the Bengals.

Rick Burkholder, the Chiefs’⁣ vice president for sports medicine and‌ performance, mentioned that Brown had been making progress in rehab. However, a recent check revealed that there had been movement in the bone of his shoulder, leading to the decision for surgery.

Brown joined the Chiefs as a major offseason free agent‍ signing after spending two seasons with the Cardinals. His most successful season was with Baltimore in 2021 when he recorded⁣ 91 receptions for⁢ 1,008 yards.
