The Gunners took a comfortable two-goal lead in the first half, with Gabriel Martinelli and Leandro Trossard finding the back of the net. However, they let their lead slip in the second half as James Justin scored twice for Leicester. But Arsenal managed to salvage the win with late goals from Trossard and Kai Havertz.
In the early stages of the game, Arsenal dominated possession while Leicester sat deep in their own penalty area. It took until the 15th minute for Arsenal to create a real chance on goal, but Bukayo Saka’s shot was comfortably saved by Mads Hermansen. Martinelli then missed an opportunity to extend Arsenal’s lead.
However, Martinelli redeemed himself in the 20th minute when he scored from Jurrien Timber’s accurate cross. Leicester felt aggrieved as they believed they should have been awarded a free kick prior to Martinelli’s goal.
Leicester reduced the deficit just two minutes into the second half through James Justin’s deflected free kick. Both teams had chances to score throughout the second half, but it was Justin who found an equalizer with a stunning volley.
Hermansen made several impressive saves to keep Leicester in contention, but Arsenal finally broke through in stoppage time. A corner deflected off Wilfred Ndidi and crossed over the line for an own goal before Havertz added another goal moments later.
