Lonzo Ball made a triumphant return to the NBA court after almost three years, receiving a heartfelt standing ovation from fans. Despite undergoing three knee surgeries, including a rare cartilage transplant from a cadaver, Ball looked like his old self and even made two impressive 3-pointers in the first quarter of the preseason game against the Minnesota Timberwolves. Known for his off-ball shooting and elite defense, Ball has transformed his game and shot over 42% from beyond the arc in his most recent NBA season. He expressed gratitude for being back on the court and credited the support around him for making it possible. In addition to his shooting skills, Ball showcased his ability as a connector on offense and an effective hit-ahead passer. Defensively, he displayed instincts that haven’t diminished despite his time away from the game. However, it’s important to note that Ball will be closely monitored by the Chicago Bulls due to concerns about re-injury. While this preseason performance was impressive, there are no guarantees that he will be able to sustain this level of play throughout an entire season with a surgically created knee joint. Nevertheless, if he can continue performing at this level, Ball could become an inspiration for other players facing career-threatening injuries. It remains to be seen whether he can overcome these challenges and have a successful comeback season in the NBA.
