In the small town of Shreveport, Louisiana, one pastor and football coach is making a significant impact on young lives. Denny Duron, a former Louisiana Tech hall-of-fame quarterback, founded the Evangel Christian Academy in 1980 with the goal of spreading the Christian faith to a new generation. Since then, Pastor Duron has led the football team to numerous victories, including 12 district championships, 14 state championships, and even one national title. Additionally, 14 graduates from Evangel have gone on to play in the NFL.
During an exclusive interview with Fox News Digital, Duron expressed his gratitude for being able to teach God’s word to his team of 75 young men every morning. He emphasized that most of them had never owned a Bible until they received one from him. Duron sees football as a tool or platform through which he can share the message of Jesus with his players.
Fox Nation’s new series “God. Family. Football.” focuses on the real-life challenges faced by members of Evangel Christian Academy’s football team as they strive for their 15th state championship title. The show follows these players through practices, strategy sessions, homecoming events, and all aspects of high school life.
Duron himself has had an incredible journey as both a pastor and coach. After signing with the Washington Redskins as a third-string quarterback in his early career days, he felt called by God to leave football behind and use his influence in other ways.
Throughout his time at Evangel Christian Academy, Coach Duron has coached numerous All-Americans while also setting offensive records for yardage and points scored nationally. The school has been recognized by USA Today as one of the top eight high schools leading students into successful NFL careers.
