Former Liberal Democratic Party Secretary General Toshihiro Nikai and other lawmakers from the Japan-China Parliamentary Friendship Association held a meeting with Zhao Leji, the third-ranking member of the Chinese Communist Party, at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing on Wednesday morning.
During the meeting, it is believed that discussions took place regarding various issues including a recent incident where a Chinese military aircraft intruded into Japan’s airspace. Additionally, they are thought to have addressed Beijing’s ban on imports of Japanese marine products following Tokyo Electric Power Company Holdings, Inc.’s release of treated water into the ocean from its Fukushima No. 1 nuclear power plant.
At the start of the meeting, Nikai expressed his desire for tangible progress and concrete results in terms of cooperation between both countries. In response, Zhao stated that China is prepared to promote healthy and stable development in bilateral relations.
Furthermore, Nikai also made a request for an early resumption of short-term visa waivers for Japanese nationals.
The meeting between these influential figures highlights ongoing efforts to strengthen ties between Japan and China. It serves as an opportunity for open dialogue and collaboration on important matters affecting both nations.
