In May 2024, CNN released a video clip from hotel surveillance footage dating back to 2016. The video appeared to show Combs, also known as Sean “Diddy” Combs, assaulting his then-girlfriend Cassandra Ventura, commonly known as Cassie. This incident aligned with the details of a lawsuit filed by Ventura against Combs on November 16, 2023. The following day, both parties announced that they had reached a settlement.
Combs responded to the released footage by posting a video on Instagram where he admitted his wrongdoing and expressed remorse. He acknowledged hitting rock bottom and took full responsibility for his actions in the video. Combs stated that he had sought therapy and undergone rehabilitation since then, emphasizing his commitment to becoming a better person each day.
During a hearing held on September 18 regarding Combs’ second request for bail, Assistant U.S. Attorney Emily Johnson presented alleged text messages sent by Combs after the assault took place. One message read: “Call me, the cops are here.” Another message stated: ”I have six kids. Call, I’m surrounded.” Johnson did not mention Cassie’s name during her statement but revealed that she responded to these texts by expressing her disapproval of Combs’ actions.
U.S District Judge Andrew L. Carter Jr., presiding over the case, once again denied bail for Sean “Diddy” Combs.
