Nintendo and Pokemon have filed a patent infringement lawsuit against the creators of the adventure game “Palworld.” The game, developed by Pocketpair Inc., has faced criticism for its similarities to Nintendo’s popular “Pocket Monster” series. The lawsuit was filed with the Tokyo District Court, with Nintendo and Pokemon seeking damages and an injunction against the alleged infringement. In a joint statement, the two companies emphasized their commitment to protecting their intellectual property rights. Palworld allows players to capture fictional creatures called “Pals” and explore a virtual world together. Since its release in January, it has gained over 25 million users within a month. Sony Music Entertainment (Japan) Inc., a subsidiary of Sony Group Corp., announced plans in July to launch a licensing business for Palworld both domestically and internationally.
