Robert F. Kennedy Jr. aims to bring environmental issues back into the bipartisan arena.
The independent candidate for president expressed his desire for both parties to work together on environmental matters.
This follows his recent endorsement of former President Donald Trump, the Republican presidential nominee.
Kennedy, who identifies as an “old-school environmentalist” and a protector of nature, recently suspended his presidential campaign and threw his support behind Trump.
In Thursday’s post on X, Kennedy expressed further surprise at discovering shared perspectives with Trump regarding the environment.
“I have found to my surprise that many people on the Trump team, including President Trump himself, care about the same environmental issues I do,” said Kennedy.
Kennedy believes these shared concerns can help unite the nation since almost everyone values thriving ecosystems and wildlife while desiring clean air, soil, water, and food.
A member of one of America’s most influential Democrat families, Kennedy distanced himself from the party after initially running for their nomination but later announcing an independent run in October 2023. Researchers suggest that a major oil spill off Santa Barbara, Calfornia, in 1969 which released approximately three million gallons of crude oil into ocean waters played a significant role in fueling modern-day environmental activism. Kennedy hopes to rekindle this movement. His online statement garnered considerable attention with users applauding him for attempting to unify America through collaboration with President Trump.
