He finished with a passer rating of 54.9 after completing just 29-of-54 passes for 244 yards with two touchdowns and three interceptions.
The Jets’ offense has been struggling despite having talented players like Xavier Gipson and Malachi Corley. Many fans and analysts have called for Hackett to be fired due to these ongoing issues. However, head coach Robert Saleh has made it clear that he has no plans to replace Hackett as offensive coordinator.
In a recent press conference following their loss against Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in London, Saleh firmly stated that he still trusts Hackett to call plays for the team’s offense.
While some coaches were interviewed during the offseason by Saleh as potential support for Hackett rather than replacements, fans and analysts remain unconvinced about keeping him in charge of play-calling duties.
NFL analyst Dan Orlovsky placed blame on both Aaron Rodgers and Nathaniel Hackett for the team’s struggles on offense during an interview on Unsportsmanlike Radio. Orlovsky suggested that acquiring wide receiver Davante Adams could help improve their performance.
There have also been criticisms directed at Rodgers himself from cornerback Sauce Gardner regarding his passes being thrown into blanket coverage situations.
